A Structural Engineer is responsible for designing, analyzing, and ensuring the stability and safety of structures such as buildings, bridges, and other infrastructure. They make sure structures can withstand loads, environmental forces, and long-term use.
structural Design
- Design structural systems for buildings, bridges, and other structures
- Prepare calculations, drawings, and specifications
Analysis & Calculations
- Analyze loads (dead load, live load, wind, earthquake, etc.)
- Ensure structural safety and stability using engineering principles
Drawings & Documentation
- Review and approve structural drawings and shop drawings
- Prepare technical reports and design documents
Site Support
- Provide guidance to site engineers during construction
- Inspect works to ensure proper implementation of designs
Compliance & Standards
- Ensure designs meet building codes and safety regulations
- Follow national and international standards
Coordination
- Work with architects, contractors, and other engineers
- Coordinate structural aspects with other disciplines
Problem Solving
- Identify design issues and propose solutions
- Assess structural defects or failures if they occur
